Diabetes is a chronic (long-term) illness where
there is too much glucose (type of sugar) in your
blood. Fasting blood glucose levels (BGL)
should be between 4 and 6 millimoles/litre.
In type 2 diabetes, the body makes insulin (a
hormone that helps balance blood sugar levels) but
can't use it properly (insulin resistance).
Then as time passes, the body can't produce any
insulin (insulin deficiency).
Diabetes is a serious illness, and whilst there is
currently no known cure, with the help of lifestyle
changes and the possible use of medication, you can
effectively manage it. |
